Profile of Thomas Leung
Thomas Leung studied his Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws at The University of Hong Kong. He has been admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong and England & Wales. Since his admission, he has been trained as an insurance specialist.
Thomas worked with a City Firm as an associate advising General insurers and shipowners on a whole range of insurance claims, including Employees’ Compensation, motor insurance, public liability, clinical negligence, medical malpractice, crew claims, performance bonds, and contribution claims amongst insurers. Thomas joined the partnership of the City Firm and later he was appointed as the Head the Personal Injury and Non-marine Insurance Department, leading a team of 5 solicitors and a paralegal.
Later, Thomas joined a local firm to set up the Personal Injury and Insurance Department. He continued to advise local and international General insurers. More recently, Thomas also advised Life insurers defending Life Insurance claims. In addition, Thomas has been instructed to act for Life insurers to recover Clawbacks from insurance agents after termination. In addition, he has also advised insurers on compliance issues.
More recently, Thomas has widened his civil dispute resolution practice. He has vast experience in advising parties involved in disputes on family assets, including issues involving Common Intention Constructive Trust, Resulting Trust, Partition Ordinance, and proceedings involving the assets of Mentally Incapacitated Person.
Thomas has been instructed to advise on minority shareholders in a Derivative Action against the company directors. Further, he has been acting for a claimant in cyber fraud case. Thomas has regularly appeared for clients in Magistrates’ Court and District Court, both as an advocate or an instructing solicitor.
Thomas was appointed as a Deputy District Judge of the District Court in 2017 and as a Temporary Assistant Registrar of the High Court in 2018.
In 2023, Thomas joined Fongs as the Senior Consultant.
